Downloader Virus
I received an email from a visitor saying that my links on this site weren’t working. I haven’t been updating this site lately, trying to clear my mind from all the conspiracies running rampant today, but I figured I’d try to resolve this for this whyno.
I opened the site in Internet Explorer and got a Norton Anti-Virus Pop-Up of the downloader virus in my temporary internet folder. I had this on one of my other blogs before and found the culprits when I viewed my sourcecode.
So I right clicked to view source…..nothing. Clicked again and still nothing. How many times I tried is irrelvant, but I finally realized that this hacker managed to figure out a way to disable my right click.
Lucky me.
I opened Firefox to view the source and I didn’t see anything weird in it. No traffic stats or iFrames.
But I did notice that the page wasn’t finished loading. And it wasn’t anything I recognized. I clicked on the page info tool that shows every link on the page (how cool is that?) and sure enough there was something going on.
I just didn’t know what to do about it. Google wasn’t much help. I mean, how do you ask a search engine to find this? Anyway, I cleared my temporary internet folder, cookies and anything else that could store this info…
Still there.
After deleting all the posts and comments I finally found the corrupted code in my header.php. It was somehow added to the mybloglog script running the widget in my sidebar. Anybody know how they can access my code?
Talk about your conspiracy. Enough to make a guy paranoid. Oh yeah, I already am.
I’ll be reposting the articles as time permits.
